"When Love is Blue" by Vrinda Chatterice - Disability Pride MOS, 2026

Published on 11 August 2026 at 13:25

Underground Bookshelf attended the Disability Pride Celebration at the Museum of Science on July 25, 2026. Attendees were invited to participate in a one-day micro-poetry or short story contest at our booth, and we received so many great submissions that it was hard to select the winners. But it was truly delightful reading what everyone submitted. I can't wait to do another contest like this at the other events we attend this summer. Below, you'll find one of the top three poems, "When Love is Blue" by Vrinda Chatterice (she/her). Thank you to everyone who submitted. Keep writing!

If you'd like to connect with Underground Bookshelf again this summer, you can find us at Open Streets: Jamaica Plain on August 2, 2026. Please reach out to me at contact.undergroundbookshelf@gmail.com or visit the Summer Events for more details. Hope to see you there!

"When Love is Blue"

by Vrinda Chatterice

You beg for something sharp, something

stitched-together and completed

like fabric and flesh.

Something whole, something serrated.

Blue, like love.

From the Author

Hello!! I'm Vrinda Chatterice, a to-be junior in high-school from the pinnacle of Ohio's land-locked suburban empire. Though I'm an individual of copious and unchecked count of hobbies, poetry is my indulgence - and my lifeline. Thank you for considering my work. I hope you love it, or something adjacent!!

Image Description: Tiny, closely packed, periwinkle blue flowers fill the image. They are photographed from above.
