A lot happened over the past weekend in the world of planned activism - such as in the events around Greta Thunberg and her fellow activists aboard the Madleen and the more spontaneous protests that grew in opposition to the Los Angeles ICE raids. Some of the books below seem to be well-timed primers on maintaining strength and resistance in difficult times. Others are reminders that quiet resistance, community support, and mutual aid are vital to the fight. Nonfiction About the History and Future of Protest and Other Resources Part 1

As you well know, we are living through a time rife with political upheaval, ripe for protest, and deeply in need of real social change. Genocide in Gaza, ongoing war in Ukraine, modern-day slavery in Congo, waves of antisemitism, the Trump administration's actions against immigrants, free speech, transgender and other Queer folks, the list goes on and on and on. It's hard to know how best to focus your efforts during times as tumultuous as these. Disability Representation: Cerebral Palsy

Looking for a book that centers cerebral palsy? I've done my best to collect the names of as many nonmedical books as possible. Most are memoirs, autobiographies, and nonfiction, but you'll also find some children's books and a few works of fiction. 10 Books Banned for Religious Reasons

The United States prides itself on having built a system that separates church and state and upholds religious freedoms. Despite this ideal, many communities around the country have been banning books and censoring points of view that don't fit their particular set of beliefs. This censorship often deeply impacts members of the LGBTQ2IA+ community. In a similar vein, it can shut down the conversations that science-fiction and fantasy spark through metaphors and allusions. For example, The Lord of the Rings was once banned for being "satanic" in nature despite its Christian metaphors and measured commentary on good and evil.
