Group Story - Open Streets: Jamaica Plain (2026)

Published on 11 August 2026 at 14:20

Underground Bookshelf attended the Open Streets: Jamaica Plain on August 2, 2026. Each person who visited our table had a chance to fill in one line of the following story. Thank you so much to everyone who participated. It was so much fun to see what each new person added to the project.

This was the last summer event scheduled for Underground Bookshelf, but there's always something going on virtually! General submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and writing contests occur monthly. All writers are invited to participate. Readers should come back weekly for more reading material!

The Cutouts

They found themselves walking down a street in...

a dilapidated community with no money, no food, no sense of direction.

But then they saw some interesting cardboard cutouts.

The cutouts had eyes that followed them wherever they moved.

The eyes seemed real but there was nobody there.

A drop of blood trickled down one of the cutouts.

"Are you okay?" they asked the cutouts.

The cutouts stared back, silent and unmoving.

But wait...Did that one blink?
