in the calm of twilight’s fold
damp in the Paris mist
across the cobblestone
past the patina of time
where the world’s pulse slows,
we walk past ghosts of revolution
she clutches a map of stars, and I,
a bouquet of forgotten songs
our laughter,
a melody caught between the arches
her touch,
a sudden flare,
lights up the enveloping night,
a silent rebellion against the dark-
and on our rendezvous
under arc de triomphe,
as the unknown solders
loaded their guns,
we fired kisses
deep into the night.
