Hands dip deep in soil.
They come back up rich with earth,
turning it over.
I dig a small well,
press tender roots deep into
cool dirt. Add water.
Life springs forth, fruitful.
Nourishing body and soul.
Harmonious gift.
During mealtimes we
rejoice at the blessings of
summer at our hands.
Hope and gratitude
bend our knees as we
till and foster life.
It flows from the earth
in mutuality and
returns our blessings.
