Underground Bookshelf attended the Disability Pride Celebration at the Museum of Science in Boston, MA on July 25, 2026. Each person who visited our table had a chance to fill in one line of the following story. Thank you so much to everyone who participated. It was so much fun to see what each new person added to the project.

Unicorn Dreaming
The girl opens her book.
She feels the book's pages begin to glow.
The pages glow because the words were very powerful.
The words make her go to a different dimension.
She sees a unicorn in the different dimension.
The unicorn says, "Hello, what is your name?"
The girl says, "My name is sprite."
What a wonderful name!
"What do I have to do to be your friend?" the girl inquired.
The unicorn says, "A mortal dare be a god's friend, what blasphemy!"
Unicorns are gentle and caring creatures except when...
You try to be a unicorn.
After you become a unicorn, you step into a portal of...
Space and time travel filled with glitter, rainbows that throw the girl and unicorn back to the beginning of the unicorn army's destruction.
"I've seen a lot," the unicorn says. "I need a break."
The girl then realizes she chose the right book because she made a real best friend.
She hopes that she can open another book soon and find more friends.
Sometimes, it is lovely being a unicorn.
Unicorns don't always know how to love themselves.

"And that's why," the girl says, "You need friends to remind you of how special you are, and that you must love every part of yourself...the light and the dark."
So, we decided to travel in the forest to find a...
new friend who is ready to go on adventures,
and find good treasure,
which cheered her greatly.
As she boarded the cherry oak-wooded ship named, 'The Revenge,' she noticed a seagull.
The seagull was eyeing her snacks.
The seagull decided to eat somebody else's fluffernutter instead.
Then, the seagull got sick because the fluffernutter was old and moldy.
He decided to look for medicine.
And so, he went and saw a tiny cabin with a light inside of it.
The cabin looked creepy, abandoned.
Yet, it was the only option...
He woke suddenly to discover it was all a dream.
Or was it?
All of a sudden, the unicorn appeared at the foot of the bed. He said...
"For I have reached out to you in a dream as my world is being polluted by climate change and I need your help."
The unicorn spoke thus, "You must help me and sail the seven unicorn seas! Find all eight unicorn horns and free the universe!"
Josh said, "Okay, just let me brush my teeth first." The fist bumped in the name of dental hygiene.
The mother was pleased. Finally, there was a...
Way to entertain Josh and get him out of the house.
After brushing, flossing, (his teeth) and gargling sea-salt water, Josh and Peggy (his cat) set out - with snacks of course!
At the end of the lane, stood the girl who had opened the book in his dreams. The unicorn stood beside her, ready to take them on their adventure.
