July 2025 Writing Contest Submissions

Published on 28 June 2025 at 12:40

The theme for our July writing contest is DISABILITY PRIDE!

In the United States, Disability Pride is celebrated in July because the landmark legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act, was passed on July 25, 1990. While the fights for inclusion and equality/equity are not over (and the recent fights over Medicare and Medicaid suggest some backsliding), the ADA was a major step toward including people with disabilities in public life.

In celebration of Disability Pride Month, the theme for July's writing contest is DISABILITY PRIDE. Short stories, flash fiction, poetry, microfiction, short memoir, and first chapters of longer works are all welcome. The word limit is 2,000 words. Please let me know if your submission comes with any content warnings. I also ask everyone to refrain from egregious violent or sexual content as I don't put age restrictions on content.

How to Submit:

There are four ways to submit your work. Please pick the one that is most convenient for you.

  • Via Email:
  • Via Neobook:

Image Description: A pale woman with long red hair brushed over her shoulder poses with her arm draped artfully over the back of her wheelchair. Her other arm stabilizes the wheel. She wears a white camisole. The rest of her clothes disappear into the black background. Her eyes are closed.
