The theme for our May writing contest is POETRY!
All forms of poetry are welcome (under 2,000 words). However, I do not put an age restriction on these contests, so I ask everyone to, please, refrain from egregious sexual or violent content and let me know if there is an important content warning.
How to Submit:
There are four ways to submit your work.
- Via Email:
- email your submission to contact.undergroundbookshelf@gmail.com
- include the contest you are submitting to, the name you would like to be credited under, and your pronouns
- Via Neobook:
- publish your completed poem on Neobook
- include the hashtag #flashfictionfun so that other participants can find and read your work
- direct message the contest moderator (@LauraWrites), (include the contest you are submitting to, the name you would like to be credited under, and your pronouns)
- Via Booksie:
- publish your completed poem on Booksie
- include the hashtag #flashfictionfun so that other participants can find and read your work
- direct message the contest moderator (@LauraWrites), (include the contest you are submitting to, the name you would like to be credited under, and your pronouns)
- Via Wattpad:
- publish your completed poem on Wattpad
- include the hashtag #flashfictionfun so that other participants can find and read your work
- drop the link to your submission in the comment section of the May Poetry Open

Contest Timeline:
- Submissions open May 01, 2025
- Submissions close May 25, 2025
- Results announced week of May 26, 2025
(If I am running behind, please, forgive me. My wife will be returning to work after maternity leave at the end of May and our little one is not yet in daycare, so I will continue logging in to Underground Bookshelf in between things as best I can).
Prizes:
Winners have the option to have their poem featured on Underground Bookshelf the following month.
