"Wanting You is Like Wanting to Be with the Moon" by Christine Belandres
wanting you is like
wanting to be with the moon
we are two polar points
in the same universe
and you are close enough to pull my waters
with a distance that doesn’t disrupt
the world’s equilibrium
because it seems that
being with you
is against the rules
of physics and probability
the closest reaching point however
happens not in those late nights
of diluted chit chats
below cigar smokes
and five glasses of absinthe
it’s when your company
is the quiet buzzing of a
blue screen-something
wanting to compare
a picture of you to an ugly
photo of the moon
but your pretty face
is unlike an intangible
dull white orb in the sky
you read so many poetry
of metaphors and the moon
like it’s some mythic lover
but you know it goes both ways
you know because the moon
only comes at night

Image Description: The night sky, dark in the top left corner, fades to a light teal in the bottom right corner of the image. In the top center the first quarter moon stands out in stark white.
