Hi everyone! Thanks so much for coming back to visit Underground Bookshelf. I love sharing these resources with you, and I hope everyone who visits finds something they're looking for - whether that's a little light reading, a writing contest, to find the next author or book to add to your TBR, or something else.
Like many of you, I'm a writer as well. I've self-published three books so far and am currently working on the sequel to Aftermath. I'm pretty excited about the twists and turns it's taking. I'm really excited to tell people that my books are now available at their first brick-and-mortar! If you happen to be in the Greater Boston (Massachusetts, USA) area, you can now find The Wood, Aftermath, and Airphibious on consignment at Porter Square Books in Cambridge, MA. Consignment options are growing for self-published and small, indie authors.
Generally, bookstores (even the small, indie ones) prefer to order books through Ingram or another large wholesale book supplier because it is much easier than sourcing books from each author individually. Plus, they have the option to send back any books that don't sell. But there are many small bookstores that want to carry work from indie authors - especially local authors.
Consignment is how these small bookstores protect themselves and offer space on their shelves to local indie authors. Typically, they don't pay anything upfront. They offer shelf space and agree to split the sale with the author, usually around 60/40 or 50/50. If you're an indie or self-published author, consignment might be an option for you as you look to place your book in shops in your local community.
